entertwine's Grand Event Workshops

For the first year ever, we're adding 3 workshops to The Grand Event.

The Grand Event is the conclusion of  entertwine's APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) play fellowship, a performance of 10 plays will debut at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) Democracy Center in Los Angeles.

This year in addition to the 10 plays, we're offering 3 workshops:

11am to 12pm:

• Corporeal Reformation-Walking Into the Infinite Sunset/Sunrise (Butoh Walking)

  • Instructed by: josie j (divinebrick) 

  • Bio: Artist divinebrick (josie j) is a self iconoclast search for the sacred primordial being. divinebrick name is a placeholder for an idea that the self is a divine phenomenon holding and care taking the grander whole. Decolonizing the self is the remembering of the soil the self is made of. The name “josie j” is the further erasure of the colonized self accepted for autonomy. In 2010 josie j began studies in dance with Koichi and Hiroko Tamano. The Tamano’s are Berkeley based Butoh Masters, once students of Tatsumi Hijikata.

  Workshop Description:

  • Walking (moving in space) is an activity that most engage in. It is a corporeal reality that is of refined motion. This meditative walk will facilitate the body’s natural awareness of the environment and its endless morphing canopy of colors, sounds, smells, taste and textures. The first few minutes of the walk will introduce a body vocabulary (butoh-fu) that you will use to refine the energy exchange between you and environment. Some breathe work will be included in the “choreography”.

  • The goal is to just listen. Recharging with each step.

• From Start to Finish -- Devised Movement Work

• Instructed by Albert Soratorio

  • Slauson Rec Theater Company is a performing arts initiative that routinely hosts established creatives from the film & television industries, while facilitating acting & writing workshops; organizing performances around the Los Angeles area. Devising theatrical explorations inspired by Tectonic Theater Project’s Moment Work concepts.

• HOW TO NAIL YOUR GENERAL

• With A-Game admin STEPHEN NOLLY
  

  • A-Game admin Stephen Nolly has set up generals for hundreds of screenwriters in Hollywood and there’s a reason execs trust him: he makes sure his writers come in prepared. In this workshop, we will go over what to expect on a general, how to prepare, and most importantly, how to introduce yourself in the first 60 seconds so your exec starts thinking how they can work with you — and who you should meet with next.
