EEK! SPOOKY MUSIC FOR HALLOWEENERS

Risingholme Orchestra invites you to our concert based on music evoking supernatural subjects, starting with Heinrich Marschner's "Overture" to his opera Der Vampyr.

A blast from the past follows with the death-throes of the lead vampire in Stiff Luck for the Undertaker - a comic operetta with music by Philip Norman, written in 1974. 

Camille Saint-Saëns's symphonic poem Danse Macabre ups the ante in the ghoul stakes as skeletons perform frenzied dances, egged on by the Devil's solo violin.

A medley of Harry Potter music themes compiled from the phenomenally popular series of fantasy films leads to "Time Warp" from the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  

Stokowski's arrangement of Bach's celebrated Toccata and Fugue in D Minor opens the second half of the programme, succeeded by an excerpt from the 3rd movement of Mahler's epic Symphony No. 1 (Titan).

Bernard Herrmann's three-movement Vertigo Suite from Alfred Hitchcock's film of the same name centres on the theme of obsession; "Marley's Aria" from Philip Norman's A Christmas Carol is sung by the ghost of Scrooge's former business partner.

Our concert concludes with the suitably rambunctious  "Witches' Round Dance" from the Finaleof Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique.
