What it takes to build effective disability movements
Description
As part of the University of Melbourne's ongoing Critical Disability Studies event series, we are pleased to present an in‑conversation session featuring Associate Professor Anna Arstein-Kerslake, Disability Inclusive Law and Policy Hub, Melbourne Law School in discussion with visiting international advocate Alberto Vásquez Encalada and Emma Bennison, CEO of DANA.
Together, they will explore what it takes to build effective disability movements, including the conditions that strengthen representation, the role of organisations representing people with disability, and the practical challenges facing advocates and community leaders.
This session brings together perspectives from research, international policy, and the disability community sector. Guided by Anna’s questions, Alberto and Emma will share reflections, lived experience and insights shaped by their work across global and national contexts.
Accessibility: We arranged for live captions by Captioning Studio. We will also have Auslan interpreters from Auslan Services joining online. If you would like any other accessibility supports, please let us know when you register or email us at md-i@unimelb.edu.au
