Efficient Nutrient Management Planning Workshop

Good nutrient management can help you to make better fertiliser decisions, get more value from your inputs and support healthy, productive cattle and landscapes. This practical workshop is designed for dairy farmers and landholders who want to better understand what their soil test results are telling them and how to use that information to guide nutrient management on-farm.

The event will be presented in two halves. The morning session will be lead by TasFarmers with an introduction to the Nutrient Management Code of Practice, including what it means for landholders and how it can support practical decision-making. You’ll then hear from Luke Taylor about the basics of soil nutrition and how to make sense of your soil test results when planning fertiliser applications.

Following a break NRM North and Luke Taylor will put this learning into practice with a case study from Clear Springs Dairy, working through real soil test results to identify nutrient priorities and develop a nutrient management plan to improve fertiliser efficiency and manage input costs.

NRM North’s Jesse Webster will also explore how riparian areas and appropriate buffer zones can help protect waterways, build farm resilience and contribute to productive livestock systems.

Bring your own data! Participants are encouraged to bring along recent soil test results, nutrient maps, fertiliser plans or nutrient budgets. The final session will be an informal, practical discussion where you can ask questions and get feedback relevant to your own property.
