El Montez & The Tarantellas Goin Ridin Single Launch
Description
El Montez returns to Willyama | Broken Hill for the launch of Goin’ Ridin’, a newly unearthed single from the Emu Sessions vault.
Originally recorded as a demo with two vocal layers and guitar only, Goin’ Ridin’ captures the song in an early raw form: stripped back, restless, and ready to run.
The song is about escaping control. Riding becomes the way out: horse, car, road, engine, will. A refusal to stay contained. A hand on the reins. A foot on the pedal. A horizon opening.
This release sits outside the forthcoming El Montez EP, arriving instead as a recovered transmission from another chamber of the catalogue — direct, unvarnished, and charged with the weather of departure.
For this Broken Hill launch, El Montez appears with the first iteration of The Tarantellas — a revolving collective of musicians assembled according to place, availability, and the demands of the road. The Tarantellas draw on the strongest players encountered on the trail, to further amplify the electric current of El Montez; taking shape through whatever instrumentation the songs and circumstances call for — drums, bass, strings, backing vocals, and beyond. This performance will see El Montez joined by drummer Bilyara Bates, a musician known for his work with Firestorm and Tha Boiz.
Support comes from Curtis Nye, who cut his teeth in the Adelaide scene playing his particular brand of Daniel Johnston / Anthony Green-inspired emotional, darkly comic and satirical, acoustic minimalist folk punk. Since moving back to his home town of Broken Hill, he has collaborated and meandered accordingly in its dusty landscape...full of poetry, longing and artists alike.
El Montez first carried a guitar along dusty roads, dry creek beds, and under eagle shadows among the granite of Djaara Country. Frequently sighted with acoustic in hand, travelling the worlds between city and outback, El Montez’s live performances are driven by electric guitar and expansive vocals.
Come prepared for deep, dark, electric tales of the interior weather of the heart — grunge-folk poetry that takes you from Central Victoria to Central Park, New York, and now back out through the red dirt and silver light of Broken Hill.
Expect songs from across the El Montez catalogue, including Bitch Sonnet, New York, and the launch of Goin’ Ridin’.
A night for dust, escape, old ghosts, new wheels, and the trail ahead.
