Event description

Our next El Pichindé (Drumming Workshop) is fast approaching. Come learn the basics and not-so-basics of bullerengue percussion. Lose yourself in the rhythm and give in to the power of the drums.

The date is on the 30th of June at Chestnuts Community Centre near Seven Sisters station. Join us in a celebration of AfroColombian traditions and dare to express through drumming and rhythm.

The workshop will be followed by a jam, so get ready to put everything into practice straight away.

All levels welcome!

In ancient cultures all over the world drums are considered sacred, and are believed to connect heaven and earth, influencing both cosmic rhythm and the human psyche. They have been -and still are- used in ceremonies as means to maintain the rhythm of the worlds and heal the spirit. The beat of the drum connects us to the beat of our hearts and aligns us to the beat of the earth.

In Colombia, within bullerengue culture, drums are an essential element that allow us to communicate with each other and to transcend our pain and suffering into rhythm and movement. Drums are a symbol of resistance and connection to the root; they help us enter a state of higher consciousness, acting as a channel to our inner self.
