Elder Abuse and Cognitive Impairment Research Study

The Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department has commissioned the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre to undertake a research project on Elder Abuse and Cognitive Impairment (EACI).

The research explores advocate and practitioner experiences and responses to elder abuse of older people with cognitive Impairment. It hopes to better understand and develop an evidence-based approach to enhancing response to and prevention of elder abuse.

Focus Groups

In the project's first phase, we'll hold online focus groups with advocates and practitioners who have professional insights into and have supported older people with cognitive impairment who are victims of elder abuse. We are keen to hear about the impacts and experiences of elder abuse victim-survivors with cognitive impairment to underlay drivers of elder abuse, including ‘challenging behaviours’ compared to older people with no cognitive impairment, characteristics of perpetrator types and help identify specific forms of elder abuse that impact older people with cognitive impairment.

This is a screening measure as this project discusses sensitive information. Persons who purposefully misrepresent themselves will be subject to removal from the project. Your insights during the focus group will be completely anonymous.
