Calling all consumers involved in a Health Service Committee, Group, or similar role!

In the not-too-distant future (likely 5-8 years), WA hospitals will move to using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR). This will come with a raft of changes to the way clinicians record our health information and make decisions; and the way we as consumers interact with the health system.

Currently, Health Consumers' Council is working with the WA Health Electronic Medical Record team as they move through the design to the implementation of this system.

Join us for an online conversation to:

Understand what these changes are likely to look like at a statewide level, and at an individual hospital level
Learn what decisions will have to be made along the way by the Department of Health (DoH)
Add things to the agenda for our consumer advocate to raise through this process
Stay connected and informed about the EMR and the related changes this will come with
Keep your CAC, DHAC, CAG (or similar) informed about the statewide plans

HCC has consumer payments available which can be provided for your attendance (at a rate of $37.50 per hour).

Background

Health Consumers' Council has been assisting the EMR program team with consumer involvement through the 2023-2024 financial year and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Prior to this, in 2021, HCC was funded to produce a Consumer Charter for WA's EMR.

This has allowed for a consumer advisor (Pip Brennan) to work alongside the program team, and for HCC to convene a group of consumer representatives who have provided input to the planning process of the EMR. An additional aim of this engagement has been to inform consumers around the features and technical details of Electronic Medical Records so that they may be able to engage in informed consultation.

- Data Security and Trust with an EMR (5th June 24)
  Keith Donohoe (Consumer Advocate) and Robyn Gillies (Chief Medical Information Officer, EMR Royal Melbourne) join a panel discussion to discuss what data is captured in an EMR and why, how this information is managed and accessed, and what safeguards are often put in place to protect information from ‘bad agents’.
