Event description

We are very excited to be hosting this special show featuring Elle Shimada (Naarm/Melbourne) and Ally Howe. This will be Ally’s last show before leaving for the USA!

Elle Shimada is a violinist, producer, curator, DJ and multi-instrumentalist from Tokyo based in Melbourne.

A unique combination of thickly layered string lines making tender love to heavy new-jazz influenced beats creates an emotive, cinematic and other-worldly atmosphere while keeping the dance floor pulsing with visionary and edgy production.

In collaboration with the CO-DREAMERS, Shimada fuses a choir section and choreography with kinetic succession of dance beats and abstract compositions to create an unforgettable live performance experience.

In 2022, Shimada released her debut album ‘HOME ≠ LOCATION’ on The Jazz Diaries, Shimada journeys through spiritual jazz and drum’n’bass in search of a home beyond the geographical touring in Australia, UK, EU, USA and Indonesia with tenacious reception globally.

Ally Howe is an emerging eclectic violinist and electronic producer.  She composes and produces jazz/pop electronica hybrids that feature her violin, vocals and fellow acclaimed talent – both local and international – such as industry heavyweights Regina Carter (USA) , Scott Tixier (USA) and Andrea Keller (AUS)

Following the release of her EP The Feather Came First Ally is excited to cement her growing reputation as a live performer, innovative composer, and creative producer.

Genie Stuart, is an artist and composer living on Ngunawal/Ngunnawal/Ngambri land, currently in residence at Gorman Arts Centre through the Emerging Artist Studio Program. Her recent works, ‘everything that rises must converge’ and ‘don____NT))CRY4_me!!!!!!Im BRAVE” are immersive sound works that use recorded sounds and internet footage to engage simultaneous dis/connection experienced online.

Gang Gang acknowledges that this venue operates and runs events on the stolen lands of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people, and we pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded.
