    Event description

2024 marks an exciting year of evolution for our annual awards night known as the Ellies.

We are in a brand new venue; have the brand new Technical Excellence Award; there is an option to win a highly commended certificate in each of the categories; and we will be unveiling a brand new modern trophy that nods to the past. Not to mention we have our largest pool of newly Accredited members since 2006!

However the biggest change is the creation of a companion event called Cutting It. This editing festival takes place on the same day as the Ellie Awards and explores the state of Australian Post Production with panels, presentations, prizes, and a networking event hosted by our new Partner Netflix.

This event came about because we wanted to celebrate that the Ellies brings together our community from across the country. It’s a unique opportunity to facilitate interstate connections and to provide additional value for those members visiting Sydney for the weekend.

We have put together a program that has a diverse array of offerings that will hopefully appeal to a broad audience. There is a two hour gap between Cutting It and the Ellie Awards so it is easy to attend both events.

    Rundown

We are selling tickets individually to either event as well as offering a package. If you attend both you will get an additional 10% discount on top of the 20% discount you already get as an ASE member, or 30% discount as an Ellies judge or Committee Member. Despite recent cost rises, we have worked hard to keep these prices as low as possible.

Cutting It is an Editing Festival with a selection of panels and networking events. It starts at 9:30 am and concludes at 4pm on Saturday 30th of November. Dress code is Casual.

The Ellies is an awards ceremony where we announce the winners of the Ellie Awards, Emerging Editor, Accreditees and the Lifetime Achievement award. It also includes opening and closing drinks with canapés. Doors open at 6pm and the event concludes at 10pm on Saturday 30th of November. Dress code is Semi Formal.

Where can I find my discount code to buy tickets?

ASE members are eligible for two tickets with a 20% discount.

ASE committee members and Ellies Judges are eligible for two tickets with a 30% discount.

You will be emailed this code so look for an email from office@screeneditors.com.au

Is it possible to attend both events?

We have designed the Day and Night events to be able to easily attend both. There is a different dress code for each event so you should plan ahead for when you will change.

While we encourage people to attend both it is not compulsory. You can book individual tickets to either Cutting It or the Ellie Awards.

Note that capacity for Cutting It is approximately half of the Ellie Awards so it may sell out quickly.

I’m planning on attending both Cutting It and the Ellie Awards, is there a place I can get changed?

We recommend using a location offsite to get changed into your evening wear. There is a two hour window to do so.

You can alternatively use the downstairs bathrooms at AFTRS between 4pm and 5pm to change. There are also bathroom facilities at the EQ near the Spiegel Tent in the centre of the Entertainment Quarter.

There will be a cloakroom facility at the Ellie Awards so that you can relax and keep your hands free. There will not be a cloakroom facility at Cutting It.

Where is Cutting It and the Ellie Awards taking place?

Both events take place within the Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park.

Cutting It takes place at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) which is located at the back of the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park. There will be a front desk with a representative located in the foyer. The networking event will take part in the foyer while the panels will take place in the Main Theatre.

The Ellies takes place at Trackdown which is next door to AFTRS. Entrance to the awards is via the side alley. It is not via the main entrance.

Lunch is not provided but there are farmers markets where you can purchase from a wide variety of stalls.

In an effort to reduce plastic waste, AFTRS has a water bottle refill station and we strongly encourage participants to bring their own reusable bottle.

Ellie Awards - This is a fully catered event with food and beverage included in your ticket. When you purchase your ticket there will be an option to list your dietary requirements so that we can accurately plan.

This year beverages will be allowed in the awards ceremony.

When will a detailed overview of the panels be available?

We are working hard to lock in panelists and will announce the content of them soon. The themes of the panels have been set so you know the general flavour of what we will be discussing.

Are there allocated seats or tables at either of these events?

Both Cutting It and the Ellies do not have allocated seating so you are free to sit where there is free space.

I'm not nominated for an award, can I still attend The Ellies.

We would love everyone to come and support all of our nominees, accreditees, and life member. This is the biggest post production party of the year and it's a fantastic way to finish off the year.

I don’t know anyone and I am nervous about attending on my own.

We understand that it can be intimidating to attend events like these if you don’t know anyone. But it does get easier and making connections with your peers is an important way to progress your career.

The Netflix Networking Breakfast features an icebreaking activity to encourage people to expand their social networks. We have programmed this activity for the start of the day so that you can get to know your peers.

There are two Sydney Social events that are happening before (October 27th and November 24th). These gatherings are free and a great way to meet some of the community beforehand.
