Event description
Stitched Creatures with Aaron Billings
RMIT Gallery
Tues 4 March 1PM - 4PM
Led by multidisciplinary artist Aaron Billings, join us for a gestural embroidery workshop in which participants will create a small, embroidered work of art in the form of an animal companion.
Starting with an artist talk, wherein Aaron will speak to his practice, the significance of animals and their symbology in his work and the possibilities of stitch to portray complex ideas. This thoughtful and informative talk will be followed by an expressive and relaxed creative making session.
Participants will be guided in the development of a drawing of an animal of their choosing and its translation to textiles, using a needle and thread. Aaron utilises mark making and negative space to create characters and animals filled with emotion and exuberance. Participants will learn various embroidery techniques employed by Aaron in his work and leave with a piece of their own.
