The two-day workshop will include:

  • Practical ways to tailor EMDR therapy specifically for autistic and ADHD clients, ensuring therapy is accessible, affirming, and effective.
  • Thoroughly review the Standard EMDR protocol, with detailed guidance on adapting each phase to meet the unique sensory, cognitive, and emotional needs of neurodivergent individuals.
  • Incorporate the holistic Te Whare Tapa Whā health model into EMDR practice, emphasising balance and interconnectedness across physical, spiritual/identity, emotional, and social wellbeing to optimise therapy outcomes.
  • Explore additional essential strategies and tools, including:
    •  Recognising and adapting to diverse communication styles.
    •  How to assess and address interoception and alexithymia challenges.
    •  Integrating sensory tools and personalised strategies for increased comfort and engagement.
    • Using neurodivergent-specific cognitive interweaves to facilitate effective EMDR processing.
    • Troubleshooting common therapeutic challenges, such as difficulties with visualisation (aphantasia), interoceptive awareness, limited emotional awareness, or narrow windows of tolerance.
    • Determining effective target pathways, and selecting appropriate BLS methods

This interactive workshop will equip you with the tools, skills, and deeper understanding needed to confidently deliver effective and affirming EMDR therapy tailored to the unique needs of neurodivergent clients.
