Event description
In an intimate and incredibly special double bill, acclaimed songstress Emily-Rose & the Wild Things will be joined by the Mimosa Duo for a night of stunning music at the Avoca Beach Theatre. Be ready to immerse yourself in the bliss of sounds traversing jazz, folk, indie, world, alternative and experimental. These celebrated musicians have curated an evening to inspire you as part of Emily-Rose’s release tour ‘Upon These Open Skins’. It is guaranteed to be a standout concert experience for your 2022 as we embrace the return of live music.
In a world which dances between jazz, folk, songwriter and experimental, one finds lyrics of weight and beauty, underpinned by profound but constantly fresh acoustic and electric worlds.
Headed by Sydney Songstress and keys player Emily-Rose Sarkova, her full band will be presenting songs from their debut album ‘Upon These Open Skins’, which has been compared to sounds as diverse as Joni Mitchell, Hiatus Kaiyote, Sam Amidon and Dirty Projectors.
From performing classical piano in French cathedrals, klezmer accordion across Poland, tango in Buenos Aires and funk keyboards and synths at the infamous Pineapple Lounge, Woodfordia, there isn’t much music Emily-Rose hasn’t explored. You may know her from ARIA nominated group Chaika, soft songwriting duo Little Clouds or improvising solo piano as ‘Slow Streams’.
MIMOSA DUO
Mimosa is Morgan and Phoebe, a guitar and violin duo. They play a refreshing mix of classical and gypsy jazz music with delicious twists and turns in between. Mimosa has been performing together for 10 years and are always learning new repertoire and arranging old pieces to keep their shows fresh and exciting!
They have hunted for the swinging heart of gypsy jazz in Paris, performed on cruise ships, toured Australia and played at 100’s of events from the Sydney Opera House to the friendly local markets. They are well seasoned and marinated, salty to lick, yet sweet to taste.
