    Event description

Two of Australia's finest songwriters on the folk circuit bring you an evening of truly special music.

Emily-Rose Sharkova is one of Australia’s most vivacious musical chameleons. Compared to the likes of Norah Jones and Joni Mitchell, her songs and soundscapes are a kaleidoscope dream of contemporary folk, where songwriting meets world jazz. The listener is bathed in intricate, relevant lyrics of weight and beauty, underpinned by profound but constantly fresh acoustic and electric worlds. Known as front woman of Emily-Rose & The Wild Things, half of songwriting duo Little Clouds, global prog fusion outfit Shark & Fox and a member of chamber folk group The Good Behaviours, her solo sets weave her voice together with piano, synths and accordion.

Most recently a finalist for the prestigious Art Music Awards for Best Jazz Work, and an ARIA nominated musician, Emily-Rose’s music is always thoughtful and highly crafted. To celebrate the release of her album 'Upon These Open Skins' on double vinyl and to farewell her before she tours Canada in August, Emily-Rose is embarking on a solo tour of intimate concerts.

Joining Emily-Rose to open the evening is the stunning Jo Davie. Graced with vulnerable yet powerful vocals and poignant lyricism, Jo Davie offers up genuine storytelling. Bursting onto the Australian scene as runner-up 2018 Folk Alliance Young Artist of the Year, she has since won audiences and accolades across Australia and become a regular on the festival circuit, performing at Sydney Festival (NSW), Woodford Folk Festival (QLD), The National Folk Festival (ACT), Caloundra Music Festival (QLD) and many more. T

his year Jo won the 2024 Carol Lloyd Award, a grant administered by QMusic & Arts Queensland enabling her to record and release her debut EP. In the last couple of years, Jo has taken her music to new heights, performing a sold-out solo show at the 2024 Sydney Festival, and supporting ARIA-winning artist Katie Noonan to sold-out audiences at QPAC Concert Hall, Sydney Festival, Bleach Festival and Darwin Festival. In conjunction, Jo has gained recognition as lead vocalist of 'Cigány Weaver' (2 x National Live Music Award nominations) and as long-term ‘Asha Jefferies’ band member. October 2023 marked the release of Jo’s first solo musical offering, a single entitled ‘Throw Me A Rope’ (recorded by Sam Cromack, Ball Park Music) representing a change in her artistic direction, leaning into a full band sound, wrangling drums, bass, and electric guitar into her delicately curated world.
