EMPower Program Evaluation Report Launch

Join us in Naarm (Melbourne) to learn more about Juno’s flagship program for capacity building and poverty reduction, the EMPower Program, which has been purpose-designed to support women (trans and cis) and non-binary people to build strong, economically secure and thriving futures for themselves and their families. 

In Victoria, more than 61,000 women (trans and cis) seek assistance from Specialist Homelessness Services each year, with nearly half of those seeking support as a result of domestic and family violence. Among those Juno supports through our homelessness and family violence programs, almost all participants are living below the poverty line. While existing services in Victoria provide crucial case management, temporary housing, and other support, there is a significant gap in support that focuses on achieving long term economic independence.  

Drawing on over two decades of case management experience, Juno has been pioneering new trauma-informed approaches that complement traditional case management and address the structural challenges of gendered poverty. This led us to the development of EMPower, an innovative coaching program which supports women (trans and cis) and non-binary people with the skills to achieve greater economic freedom and confidence to recover from trauma and thrive.  

Since 2019, Juno has collaborated with local service providers and the global Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath) to adapt the highly successful EMPower model to the Australian context. Using a neuroscience approach, the coaching program rebuilds the executive functioning skills needed to build a more sustainable future which have often been jeopardised by trauma, stress and poverty. 

The program enables participants to rebuild these skills by engaging them in a coaching process where they develop and work towards a staged set of goals for family and housing, career and education, finances, and health and wellbeing.  

EMPower is recovery-focused and not a replacement for case management, but aimed at people who have moved out of crisis and are wanting to set goals related to economic security.
