As Australia’s population ages, healthy ageing is an increasingly important area of research. Join us for an insightful evening with leading researchers as we explore evidence-based approaches to prevent falls and promote healthy ageing. This event offers the perfect opportunity to connect, learn and spark new ideas.

  • Dr Chiara Naseri – From Research to Routine Care: Making Patient Falls Prevention Education Sustainable Across St John of God Hospitals

Lineup

  • Dr Chiara Naseri

    Dr Chiara Naseri is the Falls Prevention and Management Specialist at St John of God Health Care, leading initiatives to reduce falls across hospital settings. She is also an Adjunct Research Fellow with UWA and the WA Centre for Health and Ageing. Chiara completed her PhD in 2020 evaluating a hospital falls prevention education program, with her research widely published and cited. She is passionate about translating evidence into practice and embedding falls prevention into everyday patient care.

  • Dr Cheng Yen Loo

    Cheng is a health sociologist and cultural anthropologist from Perth, Western Australia. Her area of research is in ageing, health education, falls prevention education, family and relationship studies, with a special focus on culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Cheng completed her PhD in 2022 at the UWA School of Health and Clinical Sciences. Cheng is a research fellow at the WA Centre for Health and Ageing (UWA) and serves as the project manager for the MRFF Safe Recovery Trial.

  • Dr Abadi Gebre

    Abadi is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within ECU’s Nutrition & Health Innovation Research Institute. His research aims to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease-related falls and fractures by developing innovative methods for identifying and preventing them before they occur. Abadi research has been published in leading cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health journals.

  • Mr Benjamin Lee

    Ben completed his undergraduate and Master’s training in optometry at Deakin University. Since graduating, he has been working in community practice, where he’s committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred eye care. In November 2023, he began postgraduate research, continuing his professional development with a focus on advancing vision health. His work reflects a steady commitment to supporting the well-being of his patients and contributing to the community through thoughtful, evidence-informed care.

  • Dr Jo-Aine Hang

    Jo-Aine is a research fellow at the WA Centre for Health and Ageing and UWA School of Health and Clinical Sciences, working a novel falls prevention programme (TrEdEx) for older adults receiving homecare services. Her research focuses on healthy ageing, falls prevention, and improving care for older adults undertaking transition care programme. Jo-Aine completed her PhD in 2022 and led a gerontology workshop for physiotherapists at the national Australian Physiotherapy conference last year. She is a community physiotherapist working with older adults and a lecturer teaching research and gerontology courses.

  • Ms Vanessa Jessup

    Vanessa is a titled gerontological physiotherapist, with experience in community, hospital, residential aged care and education. She has a committed interest in education, ageing well and falls prevention – with current roles including clinical educator for student physiotherapists, community home-visiting physiotherapy practice and project manager of the TrEdEx project. Vanessa also sits on the board of a not-for-profit aged care organisation and has a professional member role of a research ethics committee.

  • Dr Jacqueline Francis-Coad

    Dr Jacqueline Francis-Coad is a senior research fellow, titled gerontological physiotherapist and former senior lecturer with a key interest in healthy ageing, falls prevention and education for older adults. She recently led a 3-year implementation-effectiveness trial as the recipient of a HCF translational research grant to enable community-dwelling older adults receiving support at home to remain mobile and safe.
