The Canterbury Branch Royal Society of New Zealand and Ara Institute of Canterbury Te Pūkenga is hosting a free public talk on Thursday 16th November at 7.00pm, by Amitrajit Sarkar, Senior Academic at Ara Institute of Canterbury Te Pūkenga titled ‘’Empowering Smart Cities through Citizen Participation: Transforming Urban Living”.
This public presentation will delve into the dynamic interplay between Smart City services and citizen engagement and how true success of Smart Cities goes beyond the implementation of digital solutions- it hinges on the active involvement of and empowerment of citizens in shaping the cities that they call home.
Mr Sarkar will unravel the profound impact of citizen participation on the trajectory of Smart Cities development by exploring five key dimensions:
- Citizen-centric Urban planning
- Digital Democracy and Inclusive Governance
- Data-Driven Insights for Responsive Cities
- Navigating Challenges and Ethical Considerations
- Cultivating Sustainable Futures
Amitrajit Sarkar is a Senior Academic member of Ara Institute of Canterbury Te Pūkenga in Christchurch, an affiliated researcher at University of Canterbury, Visiting professor at OTH Regensburg Germany and Fellow of CTG at State University of New York, Albany.
He has published widely in Software engineering and Management Information Systems. His main research interests include IT Governance and IS resilience and has extensively published, consulted, researched and presented talks in Smart City and e-Governance in America, Germany and India.
The talk is being held at Timaru Campus, Ara Institute of Canterbury Te Pūkenga, G Block.
