En plein air Expanded: A Watercolor Workshop
Description
Class Description: The tradition of en plein air (outdoor) painting is rooted in the understanding that painting from life is the ‘truest’ way to see. This course is an introduction to watercolor for students interested in a hybrid indoor and outdoor painting practice– challenging different ways of seeing, noticing, and recording visual information with the tools available in the contemporary world. Each student will prepare their own en plein air painting kit before heading out to collect sketches of landscapes, textures, colors, and forms to bring back to the studio. As an introductory course, this class will cover a breadth of watercolor techniques, including wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, resist, wash, and evolve into collage and abstraction.
