End of Semester Concert: Baroque Ensemble and Early Voices
Event description
The Early Music Studio and Early Voices proudly presents a semester’s work from its students. Biber’s remarkable Battalia evokes the excitement, fear, and loss, and drunken soldiers getting ready to fight: watch out for the cellos, who will be firing rounds across the auditorium! Rebel’s Les Caractères de la Danse brings together the finesse of French dance with the raw energy of Italian virtuosity, and McGibbon’s Theme and Variations showcase the remarkable baroque language of Scotland. Featured vocal works include the aria “cum dederit” from Vivaldi’s Nisi Dominus, and the beloved Beatus Vir by Monteverdi, and the recorder ensemble transports you to the 16th century with a chanson that embodies the disillusion felt by one of the greatest Habsburg Emperors. The programme closes with Vivaldi’s Beatus Vir combining instrumental and vocal forces in a setting of same text as Monteverdi’s, and written in a style from the other end of the baroque period.

PARKING
The City of Melbourne has recently changed the parking restrictions around the Southbank Campus. Parking control hours are now expanded to 7am–10pm, seven days per week, and are capped at three hours. A $2-per-hour fee after 7pm is also now in place. There is no change to the $4-per-hour peak rate between 7am–7pm. Parking inspectors are regularly in the area fining drivers who overstay their meter, so we encourage everyone to be aware and avoid an expensive fine. More information.
