Energy Heroes

NOTE: This training is held over two days:

  • Saturday 10 August, 9am to 4pm
  • Saturday 17 August, 9am to 4pm

Are you super interested in topics like home comfort, energy efficiency and electrification? Maybe you're a member of the My Efficient Electric Home Facebook page? Or part of a Clean Energy or sustainability group working in the community? This deep-dive course is for people who already know a bunch of stuff about home energy efficiency but want to deepen their understanding in some areas. You may even want to learn the best approach for your own home, and share your knowledge with family, friends and community members.

In this two day training, we'll cover:

  • The magic of efficiency: Learn how simple changes and upgrades can significantly reduce energy use without sacrificing comfort.
  • Electrification explained: Discover the benefits of switching to electric appliances and heating/cooling systems for a cleaner, more efficient home.
  • Sharing the knowledge: Get the skills to become an advocate for energy-saving practices, inspiring others to join the movement towards a sustainable future.

Get ready for a dynamic workshop where you can ask questions, share ideas, and unlock the secrets to a comfortable, efficient, and eco-friendly home!

Topics include:

  • What does ‘energy efficiency’ mean when applied to a home & appliances
  • How heat moves into and out of our homes and how we can control it
  • The difference between power and energy
  • The movement towards all-electric homes: why and how?
  • Understanding heat pump technology
  • Identifying upgrade opportunities in a range of areas for all budgets
  • The difference between window tinting, film, secondary glazing and double glazing
  • How to prioritise upgrades in a way that is unique to each home
  • Energy generation and electric vehicles
  • Tracking energy use using tools such as a thermal imaging camera and other resources
  • Rebates, financial incentives, and how to avoid dodgy companies

Who is it for?

This training is aimed at community leaders and individuals who already know a bit about home comfort, efficiency and electrification but want to increase their knowledge. It will make you more confident in your knowledge of how your home and appliances work so you can make better decisions and even share information with family, friends and your community. It’s also suitable for those interested in becoming an energy assessor in the future.

The REthink Nillumbik Project is a series of fun, interactive workshops to create a more sustainable and liveable Nillumbik. Sessions include a range of activities to help local residents reimagine our collective approach to energy and waste.

REthink events are collaborative, hands-on, and can help people take small actions that can lead to serious, positive change. They include practical demonstrations, creative activities, and simple ideas for rethinking everyday choices and behaviours. We want you to leave each session feeling motivated and empowered to make change. By working together, we can create a more sustainable future for ourselves and generations to come!
