Engaging and Effective: Everything you need to know about establishing and keeping client engagement
Event description
This FREE web event will change how you think about planning and implementing your sessions as a paediatric speech pathologist.
I am always surprised by how little we talk about motivation when learning about how to treat paediatric communication disorders. In our training programs, we are taught that it’s important to build rapport with our clients, but we are not taught what this actually means. What do we do when a box of toys cars and stamps don’t cut it? What do you do if, instead of happily running into your therapy space, your client runs in the other direction?
Establishing meaningful engagement with our clients is critical to success. We want to create communication learners who are excited to come to therapy and who experience success each and every session. Engaged clients trust us to guide them towards improvement. Building that trust takes an understanding of the fundamental principles of learning to strike a balance of ‘just challenging enough’.
Join me for this talk to learn how I plan sessions that keep my clients excited to come to therapy and leave always wanting more.
You will learn:
- To use the ABC framework of learning to understand why clients might or might not engage readily in therapy.
- How to plan your sessions to be responsive to your clients level of engagement.
- How to recognise early signs of disengagement and to quickly and easily re-engage your client so you can get back to smashing goals.
- Some great strategies and tips for building FUN into your sessions (including my Top 5, Fail-Safe, Super-Duper, Fun Activities).
A fast-paced, exciting session with lots of examples, tips and tricks to help you put into practice what you learn straight away!
