VENUE

Entry to The Forge is down a short driveway between Gwynneville Bakery and The Asian Takeaway on Gipps Road. It's a two-minute walk from the nearest free bus stop, a less than fifteen minute walk from North Wollongong train station, and there's plenty of free parking on the surrounding streets.

There is unfortunately no disabled access toilet available at the venue (there is a portaloo), however the venue is wheelchair accessible.

BYO drinks and food are welcome, takeaway is available from surrounding restaurants.

POETRY SLAM RULES

Sign up at the door when you arrive if you'd like to perform. Everyone is welcome, from bedroom poets to experienced performers.

3-minute time limit, no props or costumes, jump up on stage with a mic and share your original poems, stories, raps, rants and monologues with a live and engaged audience.

Random people from the audience become the judges, and the highest-scoring poet wins! 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prizes to be awarded!

But remember: The points are not the point, the point is poetry!

FEATURED POET

Alasdair Carter is a multi-award winning performance poet and a battle-scarred nurse. He sings bedside poetry on hospital wards and debrides wounds on carpeted stages. He writes and performs about what he knows and what he knows is good hand hygiene. With clean hands and honest stories; Alasdair hopes to heal heart-ache, recover trauma, and bandage his suffering with beauty.

Alasdair is a frequent open microphone night opener and poetry slam regular. He is the winner of the Nimbin Performance Poetry Cup, KV Folk Festival Reciter of the Year and the B&B Slampionship. He has featured and facilitated workshops for Bankstown Poetry Slam, Poets Out Loud, B&B Slam, Vocable Poetry, Canberra slam, That Poetry Thing, Poetry At Your Place, Enough Said Poetry Slam, Ruckus Slam, West Words, Word Travels and won a gold star for a poem about a pig in primary school.

SUPPORT FEATURE

Max Rene (they/them) declared in 8th grade that poetry was dumb and there were too many pointless rules, and their height has not changed since then, but their attitude towards poetry certainly did, when they attended their first slam at Enough Said in 2017 and discovered a world of poetry that was appreciated based on the feelings it evoked rather than its rhyming pattern.

Max writes from their personal experiences and loves nothing more than to find the perfect combination of words to describe a feeling that feels indescribable.
