Enough Said Poetry Slam is a slamily where you can share your poems/words/stories/etc, listen to other people share theirs, click for your faves and maybe even win a prize!

Our first slam of 2024 is both a leap-year slam AND an opportunity to indulge in some Valentine's love poems, so get your notebooks out and share your poems or come along to enjoy the show.

VENUE

Entry to The Forge is down a short driveway between Gwynneville Bakery and The Asian Takeaway on Gipps Road. It's a two-minute walk from the nearest free bus stop, a less than fifteen minute walk from North Wollongong train station, and there's plenty of free parking on the surrounding streets.

There is unfortunately no disabled access toilet available at the venue (there is a portaloo), however the venue is wheelchair accessible.

BYO drinks and food are welcome, takeaway is available from surrounding restaurants.

POETRY SLAM RULES

Sign up at the door when you arrive if you'd like to perform. Everyone is welcome, from bedroom poets to experienced performers.

3-minute time limit, no props or costumes, jump up on stage with a mic and share your original poems, stories, raps, rants and monologues with a live and engaged audience.

Random people from the audience become the judges, and the highest-scoring poet wins! 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prizes to be awarded!

But remember: The points are not the point, the point is poetry!

FEATURED POET

Nicole Smede is a multi-disciplinary artist of Warrimay Birrbay, English and Irish descent, living and creating on Wodi Wodi Country. Proud of her lineage, she works with language reconnecting to ancestry and culture in song, sound and poetry.

A trained vocalist and graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Nicole has performed at Parliament House, City Recital Hall, Mona Foma Festival, and galleries and venues across Australia as a soloist and in ensembles such as The Song Company and Hinterlandt, and her voice has been heard globally on award-winning film scores.

In her artistic practice, she has created meditations, songs, soundscapes and music for podcasts and plays and her poetry can be found in visual and sound pieces, exhibitions, journals, publications and anthologies. In 2022 Nicole was a recipient of the inaugural Space to Create residency through Australia Council, Yil Lull Studio and ANU and in 2023 is a participant in Ngarra-Burria First Peoples Composers program working with Ensemble Offspring and a mentee through both the APRA AMCOS Women in Music program and South Coast Writers Centre Emerging Writers program. Nicole is the First Nations Artistic Director at Red Room Poetry.

SUPPORT FEATURE

Megan Castor is a writer and student living and working on Dharawal Country. Megan recently graduated with a degree in literature, where she discovered her love of narrative verse. Described as “feral” by many people, her poetry is inspired both by the beauty of the natural world and the horrors of humanity.
