Tue, 10 Feb, 7pm - Tue, 8 Sep, 8pm 2026 AEST

Event description

“I have been absolutely blown away by the opportunity to experience the Whiskey Bar series. There is something so life-affirming and generous about being let in on such intimate experiences of great music.”

Harking back to the days of the speakeasy bars, this gem of a venue is the setting for five very special, intimate Ensemble Q concerts in 2025. Enter the room through a
Narnia-inspired wardrobe and dissolve yourself in an evening of good company and incredible music played just for you by some of the finest musicians in Australia. Bring friends or make new ones, everyone is welcome.

This series is consistently sold out (months in advance) and there are strictly limited seats so you will need to be quick to get your tickets.

Venue: Mrs J Rabbits, upstairs at Electric Avenue, 23 Logan Road, Woollongabba.
Time: Tuesday evenings, doors open at 6.20pm for a 7pm performance

Seating is unallocated, however there are two 6-7 person booths that can be pre-booked by emailing ensembleqaustralia@gmail.com. Please purchase your tickets first and we will reserve the table for you if it’s available. Minimum 6 people for the booth booking.

Parking: Tuesday nights are very quiet so there should be plenty of street parking right outside Electric Avenue and in the local area.

Access is by a set of stairs with no disability access, with apologies. We have full disability access and facilities at our Sundays by the Lake series.

Sold out?
A waitlist will be created once tickets sell out, please place your name on the list via the ticketing section to be notified if tickets become available. If you have a ticket but cannot attend, please cancel your ticket/s so a waitlist member can be offered a place. If you have purchased a season pass please email us at info@ensembleqaustralia so we can manually add a waitlist member.

Concert details

February 10 - The Family

Well not exactly family, but bassist Phoebe Russell and the Deans share many happy times, adore playing music together and there are always lots of laughs. Enjoy a new program of works by Bottesini, Gliere, Rameau and Gershwin in this lovely summer concert.

April 21 - Northern Lights

Adam Chalabi leads this stunning program of Scandinavian works, including the beautiful Crusell clarinet quartet along with super atmospheric works by Arvo Pärt and Kate Moore, and a special new arrangement by Trish Dean of some of Grieg's beautiful Lyric Pieces.

June 7 - Dances of Peril

Glenn Christensen and Doretta Balkizas are the newest violin superstar couple in Brisbane and we've invited them to join us for this special concert, featuring works by Prokofiev, Cohen, Mozart, Dean and Bach.

September 8 - Helena

Principal violin of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Helena Rathbone likes nothing more than the idea of hanging out in a Whiskey Bar with the Deans and you lot. Featuring the extraordinary Kodaly duo that Trish & Helena performed in Sydney a few years ago, this concert will be extremely special.

"Ensemble Q’s artistry sits within a realm that I dearly love - a deliciously Australian irreverence, a larrikin quality that pervades all that the Ensemble offers, so far removed from anything stitched up and yet so very pure to the truth and integrity of the music and the composers.”
