Event description

Environmental Justices: Developing Multidisciplinary Research

Sydney Environment Institute, The University of Sydney

Wednesday 24 July, 11am-2pm (Presentations/discussion 11am-1pm, lunch and networking 1-2pm)

Venue: Seminar room 203, RD Watt Building (A04), Science Rd, Camperdown

“Environmental Justices” is one of the core research themes of the Sydney Environment Institute. This theme examines the interlinked and entrenched impacts of social and environmental injustices on a range of populations – human and non-human alike – along with community demands for climate justice and justice in adaptation and resilience planning. As with other pressing environmental challenges, addressing environmental injustices requires multidisciplinary approaches that bring the insights of the natural sciences into dialogue with the social sciences, humanities, creative arts, law, business, and the deep knowledge and committed action of local communities, including First Nations peoples.

The event

This “meet and greet” session aims to foster multidisciplinary understanding and collaboration among researchers working on environmental, climate and multi species justice at the University of Sydney.

Who is this open to?

It is open to all University staff and PhD students with an existing or potential interest in environmental justice research.

What will happen?

In an effort to get to know one another and unearth possible collaborative opportunities, this event will take the form of a series of five-minute introductions showcasing current or planned research, followed by a facilitated group discussion, and then informal lunch. Participants are in no way required to already be conducting multidisciplinary environmental justice research in order to take part. All that is needed is an interest in the topic and in learning more about opportunities in this area.

Please join us for lunch afterwards.
