Equinox: A Communal Celebration and Feast Under the Stars

NEW Date & Time: 6-10pm, Thursday, 21 March
Location: Black Mountain Peninsula, Ngunnawal Country

About:

Join us for an enchanting evening at Black Mountain Peninsula, where we'll gather outside for a communal feast celebrating the Autumn equinox.

The equinox holds profound cultural and symbolic significance throughout time and place. It marks the moment when the sun crosses the celestial equator, resulting in equal periods of daylight and darkness across the Earth's surface. It signifies the intersection of astronomy and human experience, embodying the balance between light and darkness, day and night, and both cosmic and earthly cycles.

Event Program:

  • 6pm - Arrival: Park and find your way to the gathering just past the water park
  • 6:30pm - Communal Dinner: Enjoy a delicious meal included with your ticket, with nut-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan options.
  • 7:30pm - Star Net Installation: Bring beads, thread, small trinkets or a handwritten note to contribute to  the Star Net, a collaborative installation by artists Florence Steel and Lucia Webster.
  • 7:50pm - Sunset Meditation: Mark the balance between Earth and Sun with a short moment of mindfulness led by Michael Bones.
  • 8-8:15pm - A Word from Karlie Noon: Hear from Karlie Noon, renowned Gamilaraay astronomer and author of First Knowledges: Sky Country, who will share celestial insights and prepare you for stargazing.
