Women support their communities every day in so many ways. These community leadership skills are highly transferable to public office, where your work can extend to helping more people within, and beyond, your community.

The Women for Election EQUIP: POLITICS IN COLOUR Edition Program is a highly practical non-partisan workshop that provides First Nations women and women from culturally and racially diverse backgrounds with the key knowledge of how to campaign at all levels of government. You'll learn about the tools and techniques to enable you to run for office, be the best candidate you can be, or assist another woman with her political campaign. If you are a woman running for office, managing a campaign or wanting to understand more about Australia's political process, then this program is for you.

We need more women like you at the table where decisions are being made!

This program consists of a free, half day, in-person workshop and will include lunch and afternoon tea. All you need to bring is your curiosity and a 'get elected' attitude. Once you've attended a Women for Election training event, you'll have access to ongoing resources and support via our new digital education platform, "Campaign in Your Pocket".

This event is facilitated by:

Kat Henaway, descendant of the Mer & Mua peoples of the Torres Strait and CEO of Politics in Colour. Since 2020, Kat has advocated for an increase in cultural diversity in politics and has engaged over 1,000 First Nations and People of Colour in Political Candidate Training workshops and Candid Conversations webinars.

Michelle Deshong, a Kuka Yalanji woman from northeast Australia and Director of Turnstone Collective. Michelle is a multi-award-winning Aboriginal Leader, Political Scientist, Company Director and Gender Equality Advocate nationally and at the United Nations. Michelle was Lead Facilitator for the Straight Talk Program for over 10 years where she has inspired more than 900 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to become agents of change.

A quick note on our Terminology: WFE has an inclusive definition of ‘women’. We aim to engage with, and give voice to, the diverse experience of those who may identify as women – including trans, cis and non-binary.
