Event description

Erik Voeks will be playing an intimate solo show at the Petersham Bowling Club - not to be missed!

doors 7:30pm

Wisconsin born, Australian raised Erik Voeks, first made his mark on the indie pop scene with a couple of 7” releases on the legendary Bus Stop Records label in 1992. These single releases led to a 1993 album on Rockville Records called Sandbox which gained some notoriety amongst purveyors of power pop music around the world. “Smart, irresistible guitar pop, full of strong hooks and melodies, with witty lyrics. Think Matthew Sweet meets Andy Partridge”, according to Light In The Attic.

After moving to Kansas City and spending a few years playing with local KC bands and touring the US and Europe with Jon Dee Graham, Erik independently released an EP called “Free Range” which was picked up by Spanish label Hanky Panky and released on vinyl in 2012. Another EP,  “Finulu” followed.

A full length album, “So The Wind Won’t Blow It All Away” was released on Hanky Panky in 2016. The album garnered much critical acclaim and was the #1 album of the year on John Borack's influential “Power Pop Plus List.”

After touring Spain in 2017 as Erik Voeks & The Spanglish Settlement, Erik, Juan Ferrari, Pepe Bermejo, and Patrick Hawley decided to record an album together. Plans were made for the four of them to reunite in Spain to finish the album, but the pandemic interfered and the recording process took a long and winding road. But better late than never, as they say: “It Means Nothing Now” was finally released in early 2024 under the Erik Voeks & The Ghosters moniker. “Pure pop magic,” says the Powerpopaholic website.

2024 also saw the 30+1 year re-issue of Sandbox on vinyl. Once again on the Hanky Panky imprint.
