In this presentation, we will explore the role of native plants in many different ways:
- how to create with plants to make dyes, paper and weaving.
- bush food and local plants
Harete Tito will share her practice with papermaking and making dyes from plants and native trees. She will also talk about her art practice of creating with nature as a sustainable practice, where at any time the work can be returned to the whenua / earth. The process of the development of the work itself as a process of reclamation of land and native trees. Also, harakeke (flax) as a holder of wai / water / knowledge and toi Māori as a carrier of knowledge, nature as language and storyteller.
Bruce Phillips runs the very popular Murri Tukka initiative which is all about the educating people about the local bush foods in our region.
Tracey Benson will talk about her work and the role of plants in terms of creative engagement with place.
