Whether you are new to teaching or just new to teaching at KPU this learning experience is more than an orientation, it has been designed to support you in Establishing Your Teaching Practice at KPU. This workshop promotes collaboration, innovation, and teaching excellence that is aligned with KPU’s vision, quality education delivery and is in alignment with relevant policies and practices. We also want to lay a foundation for your career developmental journey and foster community around teaching so you feel supported to iterate your practice over time. We have guest speakers on academic integrity, open education and more. Throughout the workshop you will be supported to build your syllabus, integrating your learning as we go.

This learning occurs over two days – beginning with an overview of the supports available as you develop your instructional design and delivery skills centered around a focus on students, and to provide a theoretical foundation for course design. The second day focuses on syllabus components and critical dialogue about key instructional elements such as instructor course policies, and assessment design. We will explore the role of reflective practice and the development of a teaching philosophy. The workshop ends with pathways to professional development and steps for continuous improvement in your teaching journey.

Through engaging in the activities and content of this workshop, you have the opportunity to...

  • Recognize the scope of service and available supports from T&L in supporting your instructional journey

  • Generate a student-focused course syllabus that is structurally-sound and aligned with the course outline and KPU policies

  • Explore the features and functionality of KPU-supported educational technology tools in supporting your instructional design

  • Construct a supportive and inclusive teaching philosophy grounded in principles of UDL and accessibility

  • Develop your capacity for designing authentic learning experiences and assessments
