Get ready to journey into a world of ogres, fairy tales gone hilariously wrong, and one seriously unlikely hero. Encore Theatre Academy presents Shrek the Musical Jr!
Based on the beloved DreamWorks film (and the book that started it all), Shrek the Musical Jr follows our favourite grumpy but lovable ogre as he sets out to reclaim his swamp from an army of displaced fairy tale misfits: Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs, the Big Bad Wolf and more, all dumped there by the height challenged, power hungry Lord Farquaad.
To get his swamp back, Shrek strikes a deal: rescue Princess Fiona from her dragon guarded tower so Farquaad can marry her. Along for the ride is Donkey, the motor mouthed, endlessly loyal sidekick who refuses to leave Shrek's side no matter how many times he's told to go away.
But things get complicated fast. Fiona isn't quite the princess everyone expects, Shrek starts to fall for her despite himself, and a big, scaly, surprisingly romantic dragon throws a wrench into everyone's plans. What follows is a laugh out loud, heartfelt adventure about looking past appearances, embracing what makes you different, and finding out that "happily ever after" doesn't always look the way the fairy tales promised.
Packed with big laughs, bigger costumes, unforgettable characters and toe tapping songs like "I Know It's Today," "Freak Flag" and "I'm a Believer," Shrek the Musical Jr is a joyful celebration of misfits, friendship and being unapologetically yourself.
Featuring a talented cast of young performers from Encore Theatre Academy, this is a show for the whole family: silly enough for the kids, sharp enough for the grown ups, and green enough for everyone.
