Ethan Coleman Presents Martes en Marte

Martes en Marte emerged from graduates of the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, and is now looking outward to connect with various musical communities: from the Latin dance scene, to the Jazz community. Martes en Marte is a group aimed at exploring the improvisatory and experimental potential of traditional Cuban and Latin folk music of the African diaspora, and incorporating these ideas into their own takes on jazz standards. Martes en Marte is comprised of a large and versatile ensemble, with vocalists, piano, conga, bongo, horns and a bassist.

Martes en Marte will present a wide variety of works fusing a multitude of genres, including repertoire made famous by the likes of Buena Vista Social Club and Afro-Cuban All Stars, as well as classic salsa numbers by musicians such as Willie Colón. Additionally, a number of jazz standards from composers such as Mongo Santamaria, Wayne Shorter, and more will be reimagined through fresh and original arrangements in an Afro-Cuban style.
