Eucalypt Identification Walk (accessible) - Conservation Walk and Talk Series
Saturday 23 March, 1pm – 3pm, meeting at Riverside Community Centre, Doreen Rogen Way, South Morang.
Rob and Emma from Its Naturally You will meet you and start the walk and talk at the shelter. They’ll explore with you some basic ID skills for identifying Eucalypts. The walk itself is highly accessible and designed to cater for mobility restricted people. The walk is not a long one and the pace of the walk will be slow. The purpose of the walk is to look closely at the bushland around us.
This walk marks National Eucalypt Day, held annually on 23 March and is now in its 11th year. It aims to raise awareness of Eucalypts and celebrate the important place they hold in the hearts and lives of Australians. 18 species of Eucalypts are indigenous to the City of Whittlesea, occurring across the municipality. The River Red Gum is one of the most important visual features of Whittlesea’s local landscape and they are afforded special protection, being both culturally and environmentally significant. This walk explores our native bushland in Riverside Reserve looking at the Eucalypts, learning about the trees and the bushland around them.
