Eucalypts in a Changing Climate

Join us for a conversation about eucalypt forests in a changing climate and the role of culture, art and science in communicating the urgent need for global and local change. This discussion will be followed by a tour of EucFACE, a massive experiment that exposes large areas of native Cumberland Plain forest to elevated levels of carbon dioxide — the levels we are expected to reach by 2050.

This event will take place at Western Sydney University - Hawkesbury Campus in Richmond. A minibus will be available from Richmond train station. This is an outdoor event and will be postponed in the event of strong winds or heavy rain.

Speakers

Vera Hong is an artist who has produced, directed, filmed and edited over 50 short and long form films on culture, nature and conservation. Her work is featured in the current Powerhouse exhibition Eucalyptusdom.

Associate Professor Ben Moore is an ecologist with a focus on the chemical, nutritional and physiological ecology of Australian marsupials, like the koala, that feed on Eucalyptus. He is a Researcher at EucFACE.

Chris Tobin is a Darug artist, educator and researcher based in the Blue Mountains where he hosts a regular bush camp to educate people and connect them with Country.

Wyn Jones is a naturalist and educator whose conservation campaigns helped lead the Greater Blue Mountains Area to its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.

Host

Nina Earl is a curator and science communicator, with a particular interest in helping audiences access complex scientific information and build trust in the research process. She is part of the curatorial team for Eucalyptusdom.
