Event description

You’ve built a career — just not here.
Now you’re navigating a new country, a new system, and trying to make your experience count.

This session is for migrant professionals entering or re-entering the Australian workforce. We’ll explore how to translate your overseas experience, overcome barriers, and tell a career story that resonates in a new context.

This event is part of Beyond the Resume — a research initiative by Teamed, designed to understand how real people navigate their professional identity, especially through moments of change and transition. Your story matters, and it can help shape better tools for the future of work.

🔍 Session theme: Bridging Your Global Experience

How to Tell Your Story in a New Country

In this session, we’ll explore:

  • How to translate your experience into Australian workplace language

  • Common challenges for migrants: confidence, validation, and cultural fit

  • The strengths gained through migration — resilience, adaptability, cross-cultural thinking

  • How to tell your career story without losing its depth or authenticity

🎤 Guest Speaker: Yuly Rios

Yuly Rios is a Brisbane-based English communication and job-search mentor with 14 years of experience across Australian workplaces — including corporate, hospitality, and English-language education.

Having migrated to Australia herself, Yuly understands the challenges of starting over. For years, she taught ESL while mentoring, coordinating teams, and leading inclusive workplace programs.

Today, she helps migrants:

  • Communicate their value clearly and confidently in English

  • Develop strategies to translate overseas experience into local opportunities

  • Improve pronunciation and storytelling for job interviews, networking, or pitching their own business
