Description

Learn to shoot event photography like a pro. Work with a real client to a real brief. Build a folio that books work.

What it is

Work alongside industry professionals as they cover an on-the-street reportage workshop where the St Patrick’s Day Parade acts as the “client.” You’ll be briefed like a paid shooter, cover key moments, and deliver selects on deadline — guided by Oliver Minnett and Nick Fraser, with gear support from Sony and hosted by Georges Cameras.

How it runs

We start with a tight client brief (objectives, must-haves, delivery spec), split into two small pods, shadow a lead to learn setups and angles, then deploy on shot-list assignments across the parade. We regroup for a fast cull, quick edits, and live uploads. You’ll work like a real media team, training you to be one every step of the way.

What you’ll learn (and actually use)

  • Make order from chaos: How to build clean frames in clutter. What to put in, and just as importantly what to leave out.

  • Coverage and Deliverables: Confidently walk away from any event knowing you got the shots and the client has theirs.

  • Light that works anywhere: Read the street fast; when to bounce, flag, or add a kiss of fill without killing the mood.

  • Tools and tricks that matter: Master your camera, lenses, and body positioning that makes you faster than the moments you need to capture.

  • Talk the talk, walk the walk: Learn how to talk to clients, deal with disasters, and deliver despite it all.

  • Develop a style: Master your own style and look, something that goes the extra mile and sets you apart from the pack.

Outcomes

  • Portfolio: Publishable event images made under a real brief.

  • Client experience: Work to spec, timeline, and usage notes.

  • Mentorship: On-the-spot coaching, then feedback on your selects.

Who it’s for

Photographers aiming to shoot events professionally (or level up fast): weddings, music, brand activations, sport, festivals. Intermediate welcome; ambitious beginners with solid camera control will keep up. This will be primarily aimed at Sony shooters, with key settings targeted to the Sony lineup, however all brands are welcome.

What to bring

Your Camera, and ideal lenses will be fast primes 24, 35, 50, 85, and fast zooms like the 24–70mm and a 70-200mm. 2–3 charged batteries, fast SD/CFexpress cards, card reader. Wear comfy shoes and all black clothing. We will provide some Sony loan equipment as well for those in need of gear.

Deliverables & usage

You’ll submit a small set of selects to meet the brief. Approved images may be shared with the event upon your permission and will if shared will have full accreditation

Why it matters

Anyone can fire off frames, or deliver 10 pro images for instagram. Pros deliver consistently again and again despite any issues that may occur. They choose the right moments, clean visuals in messy spaces, and they deliver on time, everytime. This workshop bridges that gap between amateur and pro, so your next job has results, not excuses.

Location

St Patrick’s Day Parade (exact call time and meeting point provided on registration).
