Event description

At Body Safety Australia, we know that children deserve childhoods free from violence and educators deserve evidence-based training and tangible support to play their part. Right now, early years educators are being called on to strengthen their child safety practice. We are here to support you.

This training spans over 4 weeks to give you the time to build from your foundation, expand your understanding and translate learning into action.

Whether you’re strengthening your understanding of abuse or learning how to speak up when something isn’t right, our evidence-based professional development is here to help you foster safer childhoods and keep children's safety in capable community hands.

Thursday 16th October 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Child Sexual Abuse and Grooming

Understand the risks, myths and realities of child sexual abuse.
Grooming often occurs long before abuse begins. Learn how to identify grooming and be empowered to prevent abuse by challenging inappropriate behaviours.

For too long we talked about ‘baddies’, ‘monsters’ and ‘stranger danger’. Because of this we missed the opportunity to help children who were at risk of abuse in their homes, friends, sporting clubs and schools.

This workshop will explore:

  • the prevalence and risks facing children

  • the profile of an abuser

  • grooming behaviours

  • techniques for intercepting grooming

Superstars 2 (This can be a standalone workshop or session two of four)

Monday 20th October 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Teaching Body Safety

Embed body safety into your classroom with these ten evidence-based learning objectives.

Learn how to deliver age-appropriate body safety education. Our ten learning objectives build on decades of research in helping children understand their rights to be safe and how best to get help when they need it.

This thought-provoking session considers children’s potential existing experiences of trauma, disability and diverse cultural norms.

Superstars 3 (This can be a standalone workshop or session three of four)

Tuesday 28th October 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

When a Child Discloses Abuse

You’ve completed mandatory reporting training, but are you truly prepared for that moment when a child tells you they have been sexually abused? Survivors of child sexual abuse say that he way adults responded could either compound their trauma or be a powerful first step to healing.

Most children who disclose sexual abuse don’t have any obvious physical signs of their abuse. The behavioural responses are often dismissed or minimised as ‘challenging behaviours’, hormonal changes, or attributed to a change at home.
Learn how children of different ages make attempts to ask for help and how to respond in the moment, no matter how heartbreaking or confusing the disclosure.

Superstars 4 (This can be a standalone workshop or session four of four)

Thursday 6th November 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Preventing Abuse through eSafety

Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) crimes are skyrocketing with the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation receiving more than 226 reports per day in the last year. This workshop explores the risks to children in your care and how you can help prevent it.

CSAM can be produced by a person in the child’s life or by strangers online. Learn the risks, understand how online grooming differs to contact grooming. Whether children use technology while in your care or role you can play in preventing.
