    Event description

Me aro koe ki te hā o Hine-ahu-one
Pay heed to the dignity and power of women

Join us for an empowering evening with a mix of speakers and performances that celebrate women's achievement, raise awareness against bias and empower us all to action for equity. This event is not just for women, but for anyone that supports gender equity.

Our speakers are drawn from our 'humans' community and each has a powerful story to share.

Kerryn Beaton - Kings Council, barrister, criminal defense lawyer

"My whole career has been dealing with the terrible things people do to each other.... it's really important to have empathy for people that are having a terrible time. But ultimately, you're not responsible for what's happened to them or what they’ve done."

    Hana Saemon-Beck - Community partnerships advisor, change-maker

"My argument has always been that we need to do more to raise equity, for marginalized communities, kids from at risk families. We need to acknowledge history. We're using history to understand how we were so that we can work towards being better. "

    Sophie Elstob Gradwell
     - Tuhono, mental health advocate - rangatahi leader

"I’d like to see societal change in our attitudes towards young people, our support for young people and allowing young people a chance and a voice. Nobody knows what it’s like to be a young person, other than them."

A musical performance from Ōtautahi artist Yvette Williams will awhi our speakers and connect us to place.

There will be a chance to network and connect of a glass of wine and some nourishing kai.

We will finish with a short sharp workshop session led by mindset coach Courtney Reid to draw on inspiration from our speakers to create our own personal action plan for embracing equity.

Thanks to Mischief with Wine for your sponsorship of this event.

30% of your ticket will go to the NZ Red Cross Cyclone Gabrielle Relief Fund.

We also encourage you to bring along an item to donate:

    • toiletries (deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap tampons, toothbrushes) and any special pamper items
    • New or used mobile phones and top-ups, sim cards

    Equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have. For International Women's Day and beyond, let's all fully #EmbraceEquity.
