Presenters are:
Christine Giles
Abstract:
The Graduate Diploma in Migration Law is one of two prescribed knowledge requirements for registration as an Australian Migration Agent. The other is an independent Capstone Exam. A major criticism of the earlier knowledge requirement, the Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law and Practice, was that graduates were unprepared to provide oral advice to clients. Graduates must now pass both an oral and written component in the Capstone Exam. For this reason, students in the Graduate Diploma have been assessed by way of oral and written tasks in all six subjects since the course commenced in 2018. Christine’s presentation will focus on how to prepare students for oral exams, and how to give students the best and fairest opportunity to demonstrate their learning at the highest possible level in a viva.
