'Everything is Alive and Looking At You' is the exploration of a life lived through a lens of intense sensitivity.

THE EXHIBITION

Wolfie Genesis’ ‘Everything is Alive and Looking At You’ is an undeniable ode  to the powerful nature of the human mind to find patterns of sentience everywhere we look. Their series that took inspiration from their experience in finding a series of eucalypts ‘looking back’ at them, explores the parallels in all living creatures and beings to ourselves. The possibility of all life being sentient is somewhat unnerving, and in some capacity, unimaginable.

Wolfie Gensis’ works hold gravity in their ability to somehow portray this strangeness, the intertwining of life, death, being and perceiving through strange depictions of creatures. These creatures hold an underlying humanistic quality, with an alienness depicted in their forms and expressions, that actually feel quite familiar to human emotion. A visual portrayal of how it sometimes feels to be alive through a deflection to animalistic representation, Wolfie Genesis challenges the effectiveness of human portraiture through this exhibition, and its need to be the only route to act as a reflection to the human viewer.

Wolfie Genesis’ stylistic ability contributes greatly to this visceral response through their works. Recognisably holding inspiration and roots from street/pop artists of the 80’s, such as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, there is an element of punk to the series. Wolfie Genesis captures a nostalgic likeness within their paintings, and revitalises 80/90s street pop-art ambiguity within the contemporary scene.

Entry is free, although online registration is essential.

This event has a strictly limited capacity, and mask wearing will be mandatory.

Carclew acknowledges Everything is Alive and Looking At You takes place on Kaurna Country, and we pay our respects to Kaurna elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded.
