ART EXHIBITION | Franck Gohier 'Australia Has Cowboys Too'
Description
Darwin artist Franck Gohier returns to Mitchell Fine Art with his fifth solo exhibition drawing on the iconography of Western comics.
OPENING & ARTIST TALK: Saturday 20 June, 3-5pm
In his latest body of work, Australia Has Cowboys Too draws on the visual vocabulary of Western films, comic strips, and retro advertising within an Australian context.
Franck Gohier tackles themes such as national identity, masculinity, colonial legacy, and the cultural divide between remote and urban Australia. His visual jokes and ironic twists invite audiences in, only to reveal deeper questions beneath the surface.
Australia Has Cowboys Too offers a fresh and compelling take on the cowboy myth, affirming Gohier's position as one of Australia’s most important contemporary artists.
A practicing artist since 1987, Franck Gohier's artworks have been acquired by Artbank, the Australian National Gallery Canberra, Gold Coast Art Gallery, Griffith University, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney.
