EXHIBITION PANEL TALK: Sharing archives with communities: Reconnecting stories across time, cultures and places
Event description
Reconnecting source communities with archives is a contemporary imperative of the GLAM sector and academic researchers. This panel explores the multiple opportunities for cultural institutions, researchers and communities willing to embark on this journey.
Taking the example of the Japan Zenadth Kes (JZK) Project, panelists challenge the idea of archival returns as being a simple one-way transaction of information.
Reconnecting archival materials from Japan with Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait) communities is an opportunity to share knowledge, rekindle multidirectional connections and tell new stories through collaboration.
The panel talk will take place inside GOTAT | GUTHATH | 時代の潮目 | TIDES : an exhibition of archival photographs of Zenadth Kes from the National Museum of Ethnology (Japan), offering attendees an occasion to engage first-hand with the JZK Project materials and participants.
