𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝘽𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙨 is an adventure through other peoples senses. Centred around the idea of personal sensory experience as a thing to be celebrated, 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝘽𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙨 will cause discomfort and delight.

𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟮

𝖫𝖺𝗇𝗂 𝖲𝗁𝖾𝖺-𝖠𝗇

Lani Shea-An (she/her/they) depicts her own experiences of joy and wonder in nature, particularly in reference to what she has learned through gardening. Her series of new works employs abstract and figurative painting processes, collage, and printmaking to explore the connections and emotions that the plant kingdom evokes.

𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟯

𝘽𝙪𝙨𝙝𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝘽𝙡𝙪𝙚
𝖱𝗈𝗋𝗒 𝖪𝗂𝗇𝗀

The outlaw tradition - those who live ‘outside the law’ - has a rich and vivid history. In Australia, such bandits are known as bushrangers, immortalised in popular culture, celebrated through folk tales and elevated to a legendary, even mythical status.

Evolving from a personal exploration of isolation and grief, that surfaced during King’s travels of remote Australia; 𝘽𝙪𝙨𝙝𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝘽𝙡𝙪𝙚 is an inquiry into the perennial themes of loneliness, death, and longing. By tracking the spirit of the outcast ranger through historical regions and remote communities of the outback, the resulting images speak of a yearning for deep connection in the face of isolation.

𝙇𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚
𝖩𝖺𝖼𝗊𝗎𝗂 𝖬𝖺𝗅𝗂𝗇𝗌

𝙇𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚 is the beginning of new work by Jacqui Malins using machine-embroidered lace to contemplate the near-complete destruction of the continent's lacy shellfish reef edging.

M16 Artspace operates on the lands of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people. We honour and pay our respects to its traditional custodians. We acknowledge this land ‘always was and always will be’ the country of Australia’s First Nations People. Sovereignty was never ceded.

Parking: M16 Artspace has free parking and dedicated disability parking spots outside the entrance.

Wheelchair access: Ramp access at the entrance of M16, however this can be too narrow for some wheelchair users. If this proves to be the case the studio access entrance has no stairs and connects directly to the gallery, please contact us for more information!

Bathrooms: We have one wheelchair access and gender-neutral bathroom behind the lobby in addition to two gendered bathrooms.
