In a new short film, 'Exiled for Existing’, more than 40 lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer refugees and asylum-seekers in Glasgow explore the impact of having to flee a place to be yourself.

The film will be shown and followed by a Q&A with some of the film-makers.

This is a community film project produced by the Glasgow workers co-operative, Media Co-op, in partnership with LGBT Unity Glasgow and the National Library of Scotland.

Quotes from the film-makers:

“Being a lesbian in Nigeria - you could end up in jail, you could be killed.” says Blessing. “I've not had a good sleep until I came to Scotland.”

Oluwatosin says “They kept repeating: “you're a disgrace, an abomination. You’re possessed by a demon.””

“Here in Scotland I'm free” says Mutiat, “This is who I am. Nobody can change me. Nobody.”

“Love makes your world go round. Love is what keeps pushing us forward” says Bisola.

With thanks to Media Co-op funders, National Lottery Scotland Awards for All Community Fund, the Scottish Council on Archives, Our Story Scotland, and many kind supporters."

This film will be shown second time during Refugee Festival on Friday 19th of June in Byres Community Hub at 4pm
