For: actors, physical theatre makers, dancers or any artist willing to move & interested in learning about Kutiyattam.

Kutiyattam is a traditional form of performance from Kerrala, India. It is a stylized and codified theatrical language with strong eye expression & guesture language - all relaying thoughts and feelings of a character.

This workshop, with visiting international performer Ramith Ramesh, is an introduction to Kutiyattam. It will provide an understanding of the principles of sanskrit theatre and basic performing techniques. Participants will gain a pratical experience of basis of the training process such as animal characterisation, eye movement, facial movements aswell as physical movements to communicate a story. Ramith will also provide space for discussion, reflection and comparision of Kutiyattam with real life and other acting techniques.

This will be rich professional development culturally and physically.

ARTIST BIO:

The esteemed Ramith Ramish is in Perth with Encounter Theatre, performing in Beneath The Music and is providing a 2 day intensive for Perth performing artists. Ramith Ramesh is an actor, theater maker and traditional Kudiyattam practitioner, grown up in Kerala, South India. Currently he lives in Hyderabad, Telangana, where he teaches as a full time Assistant Professor at the recognized GITAM University.
 Ramith received his training from the esteemed Intercultural Theatre Institute (ITI) in Singapore and from Kerala Kalamandalam. In addition, he has taken part in many theatrical productions and served as an assistant director in various short films.
He worked with Ariane Mnouchkine and Theatre du Soleil in Paris, with Indianostrum Theatre in Pondicherry, and has taught Kudiyattam in theatre organizations in and outside India.

MORE WORKSHOP DETAILS:

The workshop is a 2-day intensive from 10am to 4pm, with a 45min lunch break.
You are welcome to attend Day 1 only if that is all you can attend.
Min capacity: we require a min of 10 people to run this.
