Event description

At the Exploring Postdates Pregnancy Melbourne 2026 Workshop, we’ll delve into practical strategies and care plans that support physiological birth while working within a risk-averse maternity system.

The due date is more than just a calendar mark—it plays a crucial role in shaping a woman’s pregnancy journey. It influences care options, impacts decision-making, and can ultimately determine birth outcomes for both mother and baby.

Going past the due date often increases the likelihood of intervention, while giving birth before a woman is physiologically or emotionally ready can also lead to unnecessary medicalisation. For midwives, keeping birth normal means navigating these complexities with women and other care providers.

Please Note: We’ve made some changes to the workshops! This event covers the exact same content as the previous Postdates Pregnancy Workshop workshop.

✔ Understand Key Concepts – Explore the definitions and implications of “prolonged pregnancy,” including terms like “due date,” “postdates,” and “post-term,” and how they impact women and midwives.

✔ Develop Practical Approaches – Consider strategies for expectant management and induction of labour to support women in making informed choices.
