Exploring the Elements Through Stitch with Anne Williams

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Using a needle with an open eye and a sharp point is like tracing a line of thought that leaves a trail as ideas unfold.

In and out, above and below, the slow, rhythmical action of hand stitching allows even the simplest of stitches to become an expressive tool.

This workshop explores the elements that form and support us; earth, water, air and fire, through the medium of cloth and thread.

Saturday 14 May 2022, 9.30 am - 3.00 pm

Bookings close 7 May 2022

Using her hands creatively has been with Anne Williams all her life. She developed and taught the craft curriculum in Waldorf schools in WA and has worked in adult education and teacher training for the Steiner Schools movement. Anne is a practising artist. One of her areas of exploration is the potential of hand stitching. She has had 2 solo exhibitions, participated in many group shows and a major collaborative exhibition in 2022. She has run many workshops for arts organisations and community groups across a variety of skills, including hand stitching, spinning, plant dyeing, natural pigment making, basketry, doll making and children’s activities. Anthroposophy is at the core of Anne's creative endeavours.  For a number of years, she has been investigating hand stitching as a medium to acknowledge the spirit shining through the material world.
