Rep Oye Presents: Expungement Clinic
Event description
DC's US Representative Oye Owolewa joins forces with Christian Legal Aid of Washington, DC (CLADC), DC's Office of Returning Citizens Affairs and MBI services to host our next Expungement Clinic on Saturday, December 14th from 10 am to 12 noon. Located at MLK jr Memorial Library (901 G ST NW) in Conference room 401-F, returning citizens will learn about the record sealing process and then be paired with CLADC to start their record sealing process. We’ll also discuss how recent legislation affects DC’s record sealing process. Afterwards, local employers will discuss job opportunities. Lastly, community leaders will provide professional building resources like resume building and interview tips. The goal is to reduce barriers and provide employment opportunities for our audience. The Expungement Clinic is from 10 am to 12 noon and all services come at no cost.
This Expungement Clinic is taking place during holiday season. Public Safety continues to be DC's #1 issue despite a decrease in crime. Carjackings, retail theft and violent incidents have led to local business closures, increased concerned conversations and emergency legislation. Studies have linked increased employment to low crime rates. These factors, among others, make it necessary for Rep Oye's office to continue to host his upcoming Expungement Clinic. The Expungement Clinic is part of Representative Owolewa's commitment to improving public safety through resources and programs.
