“Ey Iran” – The Unofficial National Anthem

Composed in 1944 during the Allied occupation of Iran, “Ey Iran” has become the unofficial national anthem of Iranians worldwide. The music was written by Ruhollah Khaleqi, with lyrics by Dr. Hossein Gol-Golab, and first sung by Gholamhossein Banan.

Though never an official anthem, it has remained a powerful symbol of national pride for over 81 years. The documentary “Gol-Golab as Told by Homa”, directed by Houman Zarif, tells the story of this enduring anthem and highlights the life and legacy of Hossein Gol-Golab through the memories of his family.
