Join subject matter experts from HSE Global as they share how to best manage injuries in the workplace and the return to work process under the workers compensation scheme. 

Learning Outcomes

The purpose of this session is to support participants to be aware of the return to work process and strategies to minimise the time off work and associated expenses. 

  • Have an awareness of the legislative and characteristics of the workers compensation legislation relevant to their jurisdiction.
  • Support the process to return ill or injured employee to meaningful duties as soon as practical post incident.
  • Explain the importance of a policy, procedures, and documents, to manage workplace rehabilitation within their own workplace and outline key steps in the process.
  • List the responsibilities of members of the workforce (supervisors, managers, workers) regarding injury management, workers’ compensation and return to work processes.
  • Outline effective communication techniques with the injured workers, management, treating medical practitioners, injury management coordinators and other key persons involved in the return-to-work coordination process.
  • Discuss the importance of a return-to-work plan (or work with an external provider to establish a plan) which meets the needs of an injured worker to support their recover and return to work.

This course is suited for participants who support employees who have had an injury in the workplace and are involved in the return-to-work process.

About the trainer

Dr Sherrilyn Mills B. Comm (HRM.IR), M.OSH. PhD, General Manager

Sherrilyn Mills has been involved in Workers’ Compensation, Injury Management, Vocational Rehabilitation and Occupational Health and Safety since 1997. Sherrilyn has a Master’s in Occupational Health and Safety, Bachelor of Commerce with a Double Major in Human Resource Management, and Industrial Relations and PHD at Curtin University. Sherrilyn’s research investigated individual, organisational, and psychosocial factors that prevent return to work and result in long duration workers’ compensation claims.
